Commissioning readiness for GMP facilities
For a regulated pharmaceutical facility, commissioning is not simply the final stage of a project. It must be planned from the outset and considered throughout design, construction, installation and start-up. This approach helps ensure that facilities, utilities, equipment and systems are ready for qualification, validation and compliant operation.
Build the Validation Plan Early
Plan qualification and validation requirements alongside the facility design, rather than after construction. Design Qualification (DQ), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ) and Performance Qualification (PQ) should be considered from the outset to ensure the facility, systems and equipment can be properly tested, documented and demonstrated to perform as intended.
Design for Data Integrity
Select systems and instruments that ensure accurate, complete and traceable records across the facility’s operations. In regulated environments, reliable data and clear audit trails are essential for demonstrating compliance, maintaining quality and supporting effective decision-making.
Rehearse Before You Open
Test critical processes before the facility becomes operational. Dry runs help identify gaps in procedures, staff training, equipment, utilities and workflows early, allowing them to be corrected before they affect compliance, safety or production.
